Our story began in February 2018 at the Vollmer Complex, where we both worked as lifeguards. Like many great love stories… it didn’t exactly start off smooth. In fact, we didn’t quite get off on the right foot—but sometimes the best things just need a little time (and a little patience 😄).

Then one day, everything changed.

Nicole was having a tough start to her shift and emotions were running high. Ryan came in after everyone else and asked to use the bathroom. Overwhelmed, Nicole snapped, “I’ll be out in a minute!” He quietly apologized and waited. When she came out, she immediately felt terrible and apologized, explaining she was just having a rough day. Ryan could tell she had been crying, looked at her, and gently said, “Do you want a hug? You look like you could really use a hug.”

That hug was all it took.

In that moment, everything clicked—like a missing puzzle piece finally finding its place. From then on, we were inseparable, always showing up for each other and having each other’s backs through everything life has thrown our way.

Since then, we’ve built our relationship on teamwork, communication, and a system that somehow just works—like we’ve always known how to move through life side by side. We’ve tackled challenges together, celebrated wins together, and grown stronger through it all.

We love boating in the summer, small getaways, and turning even the simplest days into memories. Our home—shared with our cat Harvey (who definitely runs the house)—is the go-to spot for our friends. We’ve always loved being “that house” where everyone feels welcome, fed, and like family… even if they just came over for “a quick visit” that turns into hours 😄.

In September 2023, we bought our house and started building our life together one project at a time. Ryan is incredibly handy and somehow always has exactly what’s needed (and somehow still needs more tools). Nicole proudly serves as his official assistant, quality control, and snack provider.

On July 5, 2025, Ryan asked Nicole to spend forever together—and without hesitation, the answer was yes!

From one unexpected hug to a lifetime of love, laughter, teamwork, and a whole lot of boating and cat hair, we can’t wait to celebrate this next chapter with all of you. 💍🌴
